Submitted by Charlene Spiegel, President of the Corrales Arts Center
Spearheaded by the Corrales Arts Center, the Corrales Community Mural (CCM) will be created by and for the people of Corrales. It will be a three- paneled, 18-foot mosaic mural representing Corrales past, present, and ideal future, located near the playground at La Entrada Park.
It will take a Village to pull this off. Students in grades 4 through 8 from the Cottonwood Montessori School, Corrales K-8, Sandia Vista Christian Academy, and Corrales Homeschoolers will create the clay images that will make up the mural. Twelve generous experts have volunteered to share their knowledge—Hispanic heritage and culture, Santa Ana Pueblo culture and history, architecture, raptors, sustainable agriculture, food preservation, bosque preservation, horses, native songbirds, traditional foods, the village government, pueblo art, colonial art, and the current Corrales art scene—with over 200 students.
Volunteer artists will help the students draw about what they’ve learned, then transform their drawings into clay pieces. Volunteers have signed up to help cut and incorporate glass pieces into the three panels. Stores, schools, and local businesses have donated supplies, space, and funds to support this legacy project.
The mural will be unveiled on Celebrate Corrales Day, Saturday, May 22, 2027, at La Entrada Park. There will be games, traditional foods, and Corrales-themed performances. If you’d like to participate in Celebrate Corrales Day, please contact Sandy Rasmussen at the Corrales Arts Center website (info@corralesartscenter.org).
