New Mexicans wondering whether tomorrow’s jobs will need them — or a robot — can ask the employers directly Thursday in Bernalillo.
State Rep. Alan Martinez will host the free New Mexico Future Jobs Summit from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Sandoval County Administration Building, joined by Reps. Josh Hernandez and Catherine Cullen and Sens. Jay Block and Craig Brandt. A panel discussion kicks off at 5:30 p.m.
The summit targets fast-growing fields including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, quantum technology, robotics, drones and space systems, according to a press release from Martinez. The goal, he said, is to “prepare our workforce for industries that are growing right now.”
Representatives from Sandia National Laboratories, Intel, Spaceport America, IonQ, Quantinuum and Castelion are slated to attend, alongside CNM, New Mexico Tech, New Mexico State University and UNM, according to event materials.
Organizers invite job seekers, career changers, students, parents, educators, veterans and business leaders. The Rio Rancho Regional Chamber, the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions and Economic Development New Mexico are partnering on the event. Dion’s is supplying free pizza — because nobody should ponder quantum computing on an empty stomach.
