In the Nov. 5 General Election, voters in New Mexico’s House District 44 again chose incumbent Democrat Kathleen Cates.
Cates beat challenger, Republican Ali Ennenga, 52%-48.
After a busy first term, Cates, who won her seat by defeating incumbent Republican Jane Powdrell-Culbert, is aiming to do more of the same after she was reelected.
“It was another tough election cycle and I am grateful that the voters of District 44 and supporters throughout New Mexico trusted me enough to return me to the New Mexico State House,†Cates said. “In only one term I sponsored seven bills that were signed into law, which is more than my predecessor did in the 20 years she served in the House of Representatives.â€
Cates has already been working to develop a variety of bills that she will file for the 2025 Session, including The Librarian Protection Act, Housing Discrimination Law, regulating scalping fees, addressing the Anti-Donation Clause, Recruitment and Retention of Professionals (Medical Providers) and funding to map aquifers statewide.
House District 44 serves Corrales and parts of Sandoval and Bernalillo counties.
