Record Number of Eggs for This Year's Hunt

A lot of Corrales kids will have sugar highs this Easter weekend.

The Kiwanis Club of Corrales once again will be hosting the village’s annual Egg Hunt this Saturday, April 8, at 10 a.m. 

Don’t be late, because, despite a record 3,000 plastic eggs stuffed with candy, they’ll all be gone in a matter of minutes.

“It’s one of the funist activities we do,” said Tony Messec of the Corrales Kiwanis Club. “It’s too bad it’s over so quickly.”

Messec said in past years all but a few of the best hidden eggs are gone within about 120 seconds. “It’s a mad scramble,” he said.

The Easter Eve event is free, but it’s only open to children up to 8 years old.

Normally, Kiwanis of Corrales sets out 2,500 eggs at La Entrada Park. This year, due to a slight communication issue, another 500 plastic eggs were ordered.

“We didn’t want to keep them in storage for a year, so we might as well use them,” Messec said, adding, “There will be a lot of children with a sugar high this Easter weekend.”

There are a few things people should know before coming to the event:

• People parking on La Entrada should make sure they park only on the north side of the road to avoid creating traffic congestion. Additional parking is available in the dirt lot north of Wells Fargo Bank, thanks to the Gonzales family. 

• Kids 8 and under may participate in the egg hunt, but only those 2 and under can be accompanied by a parent. Parents or guardians of other children should stand aside, take pictures and cheer their kids on.

• The event is free, but donations to the Corrales Kiwanis is appreciated to offset costs.

The egg hunt is only part of the activities. There’s a good chance the Easter Bunny will be there. It has been confirmed that the party-crashing Coyote is expected to return.
