Mural to be Unveiled at Corrales Arts in the Park July 8

A mural for the Storybook Garden at the Corrales Community Library will be unveiled Saturday, July 8, during the first Arts in the Park event at La Entrada Park.

The Arts in the Park event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The unveiling will take place at 10 a.m. in the library’s Storybook Garden, adjacent to the park, located at 84 W. La Entrada.

The event is a collaboration between the library, the Corrales Arts Society, Hanselmann Pottery, Sandoval Extension Master Gardeners and local school children and parents.

Sam Thompson of Sandoval Extension Master Gardeners told the Village Council this week that the the group had been approached by the library to help improve the garden.

“We decided to make an edible garden for kids,” she said, explaining they started with strawberry plants. “But you won’t find many strawberries there because the kids gobble them up.”

The Storybook Garden mural will be located next to the Storybook Garden.

Jen Noel, of the Corrales Society of Artists, said the mural consists of 95 pieces, mostly made by children at Corrales Elementary School.

Noel said the event will include a food truck and ice cream truck. There will also be music and the Kiwanis Club will have an art tent for kids.
