Incumbents Run Unopposed in Corrales

Candidates throughout the county declare for November elections

Posted

All three incumbents of the Corrales village council up for election this November look like they’ll run unopposed.

Village councilors Zachery Burkett (District 5), Stuart Murray (District 6) and Bill Woldman (District 2) were the only ones to register with the Sandoval County clerk on candidate filing day, Aug. 29.

Municipal Judge Michelle Freschette also appeared to be running without opposition to retain her seat on the bench.

By meeting the filing date deadline, valid candidates are assured of getting their name on the ballot for the Nov. 7 municipal election. The municipal election in Corrales was moved up from March of 2024 under action taken by the governing body earlier this year.

The lack of choices doesn’t mean there’s no reason to go vote. Corralenos in all districts will be asked whether the village should authorize the sale of general obligation bonds to fund three separate projects. One question asks voters if they support investing $2 million in farmland and open space preservation. Another asks whether they support $1 million to be spent on completing and furnishing Fire Station No. 3. And a third question asks if $1 million should go toward road drainage projects.

In addition, depending on where you reside, there are elections for school board positions, seats on soil and water conservation boards, public improvement and sanitation district boards, and flood control director with the Southern Sandoval County Arroyo Flood Control Authority.
