A traffic accident on Corrales Road around 5 p.m. on Feb. 25 closed the road from La Entrada to the Village Hall complex, leaving over 300 properties without power. The crash disrupted traffic and essential services, delaying the Village Council meeting.

The collision resulted in a driver crashing into multiple structures, including power poles and the gazebo behind the council chambers. According to Deputy Fire Chief Tanya Lattin, the driver was injured, received medical care at the scene of the accident and was transported to the hospital. With the road closed and power outages affecting the surrounding area, residents faced uncertainty as they waited for repairs to be completed.

Village Clerk Melanie Romero said the Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) kept Corrales Road closed at Coronado and Ella overnight. Residents were urged to avoid the area around La Entrada and Village Hall. Power outages continued due to the accident and repairs, as two damaged poles were removed and replaced. The power was restored around 8 a.m. Feb. 26.

Romero said the driver also damaged the fence, mailbox and village hall sign before crashing into the gazebo behind the council chambers.

The council meeting, originally scheduled to hear an update from the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District CEO on the Corrales Siphon and the IPRA report on public records, will now take place on March 4.

Other items on the agenda for the rescheduled meeting include:

  • A proclamation in support of agriculture.
  • An appointment to the Corrales Library Board.
  • A resolution outlining the procedure for disposing of obsolete public property.
  • A franchise agreement with Ezee Fiber Texas, LLC to install and maintain telecommunications infrastructure in the village’s public rights-of-way for internet, voice and data services.
