A severe winter storm wreaked havoc on Corrales last week. The storm caused widespread power outages across the state and affected thousands of people in the Village.
The Village posted a Facebook update Nov. 7 informing residents that it may take some time for the Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) to restore power to the 4,074 homes and businesses currently affected by the outage.
By midnight, 566 homes/businesses were still without power. As of 10 a.m. Nov. 8, power was out for 351 people, according to the Village. Power was restored to all of Corrales early Nov. 9.
The loss of power was due to snow-packed trees falling in the power lines. PNM had multiple trucks out working on restoring power.
Corraleños in need of non-drinking water for flushing toilets or other purposes were able to fill jugs and bottles at the fire station on Corrales Road.
The Corrales Fire Department worked to help residents without heat or a warm place to stay. The City of Rio Rancho also set up a station at the Sabana Grande Recreation Center for Corrales residents to warm up, rest and charge their devices.
“I’ve been running to some of my people that I know are living alone, making sure they have light and heat and telling them I can get them to a warming station,†Corrales Deputy Fire Chief Tanya Lattin said.
Rio Rancho also made the Broadmoor Senior Center, Meadowlark Senior Center, Loma Colorado Public Library, Esther Bone Memorial Library and The HUB @ Enchanted Hills available to help Corrales residents.
