The Sandoval County Treasurer’s Office will host several property tax collection outreach events this winter.
According to County Treasurer Jennifer Taylor, property tax collection is a critical component of municipal revenue that funds essential services such as education, public safety and infrastructure.Â
The Sandoval County Tax Collection Outreach Program began in 2014 to help ensure efficient and effective property tax collection so communities can have the resources they need to thrive.
“The Sandoval County Tax Collection Outreach Program was designed to benefit all county taxpayers,†Taylor said. “The program’s goal is to provide taxpayers with more convenient locations (closer to home or their work) to pay property taxes; this is especially important to residents in our more rural areas.â€
This year the Treasurer’s Office has revamped its outreach collection efforts to make paying property taxes more accessible. In the past, property taxes were collected at local senior centers. Now, Taylor’s office is working with community libraries as collection points.
“Upon noticing a recent decline in program participation, we realized that changes were needed to make it more efficient and effective for our taxpayers,†Taylor said.
The Treasurer’s Office worked with Sandoval County Commissioner Josh Jones, Sandoval County Community Services Director Jayme Espinoza, Cochiti Lake Mayor Don Topper and Bernalillo Mayor Jack Torres to determine a new direction.
“We decided that the best course of action would be to change the venues of the outreach program to increase accessibility,†Taylor said. “Going forward, the program will be held in the local libraries rather than various senior centers across the county. We are here to help make paying your property taxes easier.â€
The outreach sites and dates are:
