The Galloping Goats project unites local businesses and artists to raise money for Corrales MainStreet.
The project, led by the Corrales Society of Artists, is a public art initiative where local businesses decorate metal goats crafted by local artists and display them throughout the village. The goats will be showcased in Corrales until Oct. 11, with a final event at La Entrada Park on Oct. 12. Proceeds from an online auction of the goats beginning Sept. 28 will go toward future Corrales MainStreet projects.
The project was inspired by “A Trail of Painted Ponies,†a public art project sta rted in Santa Fe in 2001 that grew into a company creating artisan collectibles and life-size horse sculptures, ultimately raising over $1 million for charity.Â
The Galloping Goats project gave ten local businesses and the elementary school a 3D metal goat to decorate and display. The goats were crafted by Corrales metal sculptors Justin and Pat Kirby.
Participating businesses include The Village Mercantile, Desert Bird Mercantile, The Farm Stand, Pam’s Arty Accents, Corrales Bosque Gallery, Corrales Fine Arts Gallery, Beth Waldron Studio, Ex Novo, Moon and Dove Gallery and Sage Valley Ceramics. Each business received $100 for decorations supplies.
