¡Viva Corrales! Is back and it’s bigger and better this year.

¡Viva Corrales! is the village’s returning headline event kicking off on April 28th that celebrates everything in the village.

This year’s event spans an entire month, taking place every weekend, unlike last year’s inaugural single-day event.

“It’ll become our signature arts and cultural district event,” said Corrales MainStreet Executive Director Angela Gutierrez.

She said the event was initially organized to obtain state authorization for Corrales to be designated as an Arts and Cultural District by the New Mexico MainStreet and New Mexico Arts Council, which Corrales MainStreet has been trying to receive for ten years.

The designation would allow access to funding and programming related to the arts and cultural district, which is rooted in the creative economy.

“That’s something that Corrales has so much of, and that creative economy encompasses agriculture, equestrian, wellness, small business, music, art, you know, all the things that we sort of naturally have,” said Gutierrez.

Week One: April 28

The first day of !Viva Corrales! coincides with the unofficial beginning of the warmer season in Sandoval County, marking the start of the Growers’ Market in Corrales at the Corrales Recreation Center and Top Form Arena at 500 Jones Road.

“I think Sunday can be looked at as with the growers market included a kind of a big focus on health, wellness, agriculture, and all the things equestrian that we have,” said Gutierrez.

In the Recreation Center, people can explore the Health and Wellness Faire, hosted by WESST Rio Rancho, showcasing various service providers and individuals from the health and wellness industry contributing to the region’s creative economy.

Gutierrez said there will be yoga classes, a sound bath and around 40 different providers and vendors at the new gymnasium. She believes that this combination promotes self-care and wellness. A sound bath is a meditative experience where the attendees are immersed in sound waves, according to verywellmind.com.

People can be the first to choose from a delectable array of produce, baked goods, and crafts on the first day of the Corrales Grower’s Market season. The Sandoval County’s Master Gardeners will be selling plant starts to make sure everyone has gardens that are the envy of the neighborhood.

The Top Form Arena, Rides, Strides, and Giddyup will provide informative demonstrations on safely navigating the walking and riding paths in Corrales and what to do when encountering horses, bikes, and pedestrians to enhance everyone’s experience, presented in part by the village’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Commission.

The tour starts on Saturday at 10 a.m., covering about 35 locations with around 87 artists participating. To ease any potential overwhelm, there will be a preview gallery reception at the Historic Old Church on Thursday, May 2, from 6 to 9 p.m., and on Friday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Week 3: May 11

The third week’s event will take place on Saturday, May 11.
