In the Jan. 26 issue of the Corrales Comment, we reported that during the homicide investigation which occurred in Corrales on Jan. 22, Corrales officials confirmed that a stolen vehicle believed to belong to the homeowner where the killing took place was found unoccupied in Corrales on January 24, after a reporter from this outlet reported seeing a similar vehicle at the homicide location.
Subsequent police reports now confirm that the car was in fact not found by Corrales Police. The homeowner was alerted to his car being in the Cottonwood Mall parking lot, sometime between Jan. 26 and Jan. 29.
Homicide suspect arrested
Corrales Police reported they arrested Charles Kauffmann, who is a suspect in the murder of Elizabeth Barela.
“While checking surrounding areas shortly after noon today (Jan. 31) CPD located murder suspect Charles Kauffmann on Eagle Ranch Road near Paseo del Norte in Albuquerque. APD was notified and CPD took Kauffmann into custody without incident,†Corrales police reported.
Kauffmann was booked into the Sandoval County Detention Center for murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence.
