CASTLE IN CORRALES? Being built by Candelaria Homes—“It’s a Lifestyle”–on a lot on Corrales Road at Toad Road, is this spread, said to be worth $1.3 million. Two fellows installing steel fencing around the lot said they were friends of the owners, a Venezuelan-born surgeon, and her husband, a native New Mexican.
“No, they are not Californians,” chuckled one of the guys.
The fencing will indeed allow for see-through viewing, all according to the latest Corrales rules and regs. The home is expected to be ready sometime this fall.
COFFEE BREAKS, TRAFFIC HEADACHES
Some of us start the day full of beans, and cannot do without them—coffee beans, that is, converted into heavenly coffee.
But locals can do without the car backup and double drive-thru chaos of some Dutch Bros coffee places, one of the newest of which is going in at 3615 NM-528 NW, apparently where Ellison funnels into Loma Larga. Dutch Bros, pronounced as in “Bro.â€
The Bros expect about 94 cars at their drive-thru window every morning.
Loma Larga-ans are not pleased, but likely there is not much to be done. This does not come under the Village’s purview. And a lengthy on hold phone call to the Bros HQ in Oregon revealed only a perky female voice promoting its elaborate sugar-rich toppings. After the need to Press 1 for English. The company was started in 1992 by actual brothers, Dane and Travis Boersma, in a pushcart by train tracks in Grants Pass, Oregon. Their name is West Frisian in origin, from the north of the Netherlands. The Bros’ first franchise was established in 2000.

( It placed several tables and chairs outside as the pandemic began.) In just a few days, it blasts through a wall at its current location. In a few months, it opens a second location, with drive thru, at the intersection of Corrales Road and 528, where Circle K once dwelt. And its aromatic on-site roasted beans have been available for sale at Walmart since the end of July.
And, in other bean news, the Silverleaf Farms/Milagro Winery partnership at 4499 Corrales Road, is taking shape. It just hosted two artists during the Corrales Art Tour in a building set to become a coffee/wine bar. The smooth wide wood counter was created by Corrales’ Rick Thaler, the coffee itself, roasted on site, will be the project of Candlestick Coffee Roasters, well established in Corrales, and the sparkling silvery Italian coffee machine already in place just awaits a barista.
