• 2022 Western Pecan Growers Association conference and trade show, March 8-10, New Mexico State University. This will be held at the Las Cruces Convention Center, and it kicks off March 8 with a baking event, Pecan Food Fantasy Contest. Winners will receive a cash prize along with being featured on the Pecan Food Fantasy Blog. The conference is in-person.The Association represents pecan growers in California, Arizona, New Mexico and the west Texas area. • Albuquerque Museum opens Papercentric March 5, an exhibition through August 28 featuring paper arts from the museum’s permanent collection. Cast paper, papier-mâché, embossed paper, cut paper, and paper sculptures. “Paper is a common-place material that is often dismissed as unremarkable. In artworks, paper is often used simply as a support on which ink, pigment, and other materials are applied. Papercentric features works that utilize paper as the primary material rather than a substrate for other mediums. Works in this exhibition emphasize the simplicity, flexibility, strength, and fragility of paper and honor the material as a medium in its own right.” 2000 Mountain Road.

Did You Know?

At the request of a reader, we asked Ken Duckert if a Corrales Art and Studio Tour were in the works for 2022.

Duckert replied: “COVID has certainly extracted a toll on everyone.  The Corrales Society of Artists was affected, too.  While we did have one of the most successful Studio Tours last September, our organizational structure had been weakened. 

“We regrouped last November and seated an entirely new Board in January and had a “call to arms” to the members.  The response was awesome.  Senior CSA members stepped up and were joined by many new members.  The new Board is meeting and moving forward with enthusiasm and optimism.  Our committees are fully staffed, and yes, the tour is scheduled for August 27-28. 

“The Old Church will host the Preview Gallery and the call for artists will go out on March 8.  The primary CAST Leadership Team has a full lineup of project managers, a budget, and a calendar. 

“Also, I just finalized plans to again involve students from both Corrales Elementary and Cottonwood Schools in our event.  Lots of things are coming together very nicely.  I am very optimistic and looking forward to serving again as CSA President this year.”

• Corrales Bosque Gallery guest artists of the month for March are every member of the gallery, and the theme is the Owl or possibly Owls. Gourd artist Darryle Bass’ owls are not to be missed. A reception at the gallery for the Owl-a-thon is on March 6, from 1 to 5 p.m., with COVID protocols in place.

• Casa San Ysidro, March 12, 1-3 p.m. presents “Old Bill Williams.” Williams “was one of the most colorful, adventurous, and proficiently literate of the nineteenth century western mountain men.
