Long-time Corrales resident Kent Matthews died suddenly November 21 at age 57.
He started the first Cub Scout den at Corrales (Sandoval) Elementary back when the school had just 300 pupils.
Matthews also began a neighborhood watch group for his street here.
After serving in the Air Force during the Viet Nam war, he moved to
Corrales in 1982. He worked many years as branch manager for Dively
Scale Company on North Fourth Street.
Friends recalled he loved the outdoors; he went white water rafting and hunting recently.
He is survived by his mother, Ruth Matthews; two sons, Cory
Matthews and his wife Cindy and Justin Matthews; and four
grandchildren: Ian, Lyric, Alex and Liberty.
Private services were held December 4 before burial at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. |
