The public meeting in Albuquerque March 3 begins at 5:30 p.m. at the mid-Region Council of Governments board room, 809 Copper NW. The Rio Rancho session, Wednesday March 2 also begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Cabezon Community Center, 2307 Cabezon Boulevard.
In Los Lunas it will be at 5:320 p.m. in the Village Council chambers, 660 Main Street.
The 2035 transportation plan calls for:
• better land use choices, understanding how they affect the transportation network;
• dedicating 25 percent of discretionary funds toward increasing transit options on river crossings; and
• more comprehensive transit options, including bus rapid transit connecting population centers to major activity centers.
“Council of Governments planners polled more than 200 attendees at public meetings on the topic of river crossings,” said Maggie Hart Stebbins, chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Board, “and the two strategies that the public supported most strongly were changing land use and increasing transit service.
“Developing activity centers to maximize our investments in public transportation makes economic sense, helps reduce congestion and minimizes the impact on our environment.”
The initial draft of the 2035 Metropolitan Transportation Plan is available at Corrales Library. It can also be viewed on-line at mrcog-nm.gov.
A final draft of the plan will be ready in March, when the formal public comment period begins.
